A laser-cut saya that covers a knife blade, stays shut with magnets, and has holes that let the blade dry.
01
A cover shaped to the blade
This is a saya, a cover for a knife blade, that I cut on a laser cutter. I cut the pale wood to the outline of the blade, with a tip that follows the point of the knife.
It stays shut with magnets, so the blade stays covered. Three round magnets sit near the tip of the cover to hold it closed.
02
Open to the air
The saya also has holes that let the blade dry while it stays covered.
I also made a slotted version for a smaller knife with a ridged steel handle. On that one, a row of diagonal openings leaves much of the blade open to the air so it can dry while it stays covered.
